Abstract

The essay proposes an analysis of the myth of Garibaldi through the work of Luigi Capuana. Starting from his inititial dramatic and novelistic production, it highlights the contributions of the Sicilian writer during his journalistic and political-administrative activity as mayor of the town of Mineo at the end of the 19th century. The hagiographic-popular component of Garibaldi's mythicalisation emerges in this way but also the conservative vision of the writer who, through the figure of the hero, hopes for a new Risorgimento.
